Sunny Lanes

Pretty, pretty batik quilt with the most gorgeous colors.Of course there is lots of purple in this, so maybe that's why I love it!

This is a large quilt, 94 x 110 ! Well made, all the corners matched and a joy to quilt.

The quilting design chosen was Whirlpools (very popular). I have yet to see this pattern not make a quilt even prettier when quilted!
I use a YLI variegated thread called Vineyards and changed to an #18 needle .  Signature dark purple cotton in the bobbin. Checked the tension and away we went. Looks fab. I haven't used YLI often, but this was a dream.

Kimono Finale

Kimono Quilt done ! Quilted with Glide Military Gold for the bamboo design in the sashing and the cornerstones. Sew Fine 402, a creamy thread for the echoing and invisible thread for all the stitch in the ditch around the kimonos themselves. Wool batt. This quilted up beautifully and the gold thread really picks up the threads in all the kimono fabrics. It really sparkles!
Next is a huge batik...better start loading it.

Henrietta Whiskers

Henrietta Whiskers quilt pattern by Bunny Hill made by Dianna Frohn. She does such a good job on the applique and embroidery. This is quilted and done and on it's way home for the beads & button embellishment.

Just light background quilting in invisible thread and the rest in cream thread.  I hung this up on my wall and my house wanted to keep it!

"Road" trip !!

Road to California that is!
Friday I was able to get to this great local quilt show. Every year it gets better and better. Unfortunately, I couldn't take any classes this year but the show was wonderful.
Walking in under the hanging display quilts, I spotted the one on the left. Several quilt buddies are doing a 12 inch Block of the Month and we are now deciding how to set them. This quilt with the big setting triangles is a good idea. Lots of places for nice quilting.(something I always think about)

First I had to visit the quilts that I had quilted!
This one by Karen Powel , called Fruitcake
.
Isn't it pretty!! She did such a nice job on this and to think she almost gave up as she was tired of the black background. She said it took her a long time to finish and I'm glad she did! I think the black fabric really makes her applique stand out.
Butterflies, by Cathy VanBruggen Designs is another one that I did the quilting on. This is in her vendor booth and is a new Block of the Month starting soon, so you can make it too! If  you get a chance to take a class from Cathy, please jump on it! She is a great teacher. Check her out at her site..www.cathyvb.com
Now, highlights.

This Dresden Dilemma quilted by Deborah Poole of Idaho placed First in Traditional Applique. her quilting is superior on this quilt.

Look at the background quilting on this...gorgeous!

Lobsters..love them. This could hang in my house!!

More luscious quilting. Really enhances the applique.

Very pretty. Like the setting and borders. I did feel that the blocks needed more quilting to be balanced with the rest of the quilt.

Viewer's Choice by Sherry Reynolds

This was a stunner!!!! Beautiful quilting, all sorts of tiny fills and all done on a Bernina!
These are just a few highlights. it's fun to go and be inspired by these beauties!
I did spend some $$ on fabrics. Right now I am collecting polka dots so added a few FQ's and a jelly roll in wild colors. Who knows what they will become!

2012, it's here!

Well, 2012 snuck up on us and it's already 4 days old! I have been cleaning and organizing my studio and getting some client quilts done. On this morning and off and done, this Batik Swirl.

Here is a closer look and the thread used. We chose a beautiful gold Glide thread called Military Gold. Perfect for highlighting the golds in the batik fabrics. The pattern is Paisley Feather and you can see a bit of it in the picture above .
I thought it was a good choice on this quilt.
Paisley Feather by Anne Bright.

Can you see the owl?

Currently on  the  frame is this cute Owl quilt. We even found a quilting design that looks almost identical to the owls in the fabric. Yellow Permacore thread. Almost done and turning out very cute.

Remember this Mystery BOM 2010?
It is a Block of the month using Kate Spain fabric from the Fat Quarter Shop. I finished most of the blocks at a quilt retreat in rTemecula and when the final blocks arrived I finished it up. It has been sitting in my lineup. During the Christmas break, I do my own quilts and this one is now DONE! (except for binding)

YEAH !!
Now to find a project for this year's retreat.  February will be here before you know it.

That's it for today. Next up is an applique quilt with lots of freestyle quilting in the background!
