One finished .. one still working !

Ryan's quilt

Crazy Cars
This cute little quilt was custom ordered for a boy who likes cars! What a fun quilt to do. I put in a star and one car next to the name in the center. It is a pale blue fabric, (hope you can see, it's hard to get a decent photo) and a wild blue with lots of cars on the back.
I used a pale blue cotton thread to quilt it and everything was prewashed. I like to use a fairly dense quilting on baby quilts as they are going to get tons of love and use..and probably some dirt too!

Meanwhile I am plugging away on the large Ohio Rose. It is turning out very pretty. I will try and get pictures at the end of today. Need to do a bit more quilting.

I got the final block in my Mystery BOM , the Christmas one. I can't believe it has been a year. I have block 11 & 12 to do, but already have the rest in rows.
But I am way behind in the Layer Cake Quilt a Long!  I need to add borders and get her done! Where do they sell clones? I need one.

Happy Valentine's Day !

The above is part of my UFO calender quilt. I hope to get some work done on it  before next week. Otherwise, it will go along on the quilting retreat to Temecula . Looking forward to some fun & sewing with no interruptions!

On my wall is the current state of my layer Cake BOM and one block from the start of the LAChat BOM. I will be adding another block to both next week. In fact, I'm in charge of the block choice for the LAChat group for next month. We are using 12 inch blocks from theQuilter's Cache.

Quilting wise, I am doing several photo/memory quilts and they are turning out so well. This is a different pattern that I haven't seen before used with  photos and it works very well. I just go around the photos because if you stitch to much on them , the holes really show. Names are being added to each quilt too.  Quilting design is a geometric swirl because these are for guys and we want  nothing too frilly. I am using Permacore /white  and batting that was supplied. Looking good !
I want to get these finished, (except for binding I'll do later) before I head out for the retreat. ( I will be sure to take pics to show later)

Have you ever been on a quilting retreat ? Have fun? What was the best thing about it.
Did you really get a lot done?

Happy Valentine's Day to all of you , my family (here & in Hong Kong), and my special Valentine of 37+ years, my DH Doug!

Only 4 to go !!

That's what's left. I think I can get 4 more blocks out of these.

Layer Cake 7

Block 7
Here is the latest in the Layer Cake quilt a long. I love how this turned out. being able to use some scraps in this block was an added plus. My leftovers are dwindling and I want to be sure to have some choices for the remaining 5.
Here is the group so far:
Layer Cake Quilt-a-Long
I am also joining a BOM online and will post a picture of that soon. I need to decide what fabric to use. Maybe I should raid my batik stash..hmmm.  Will keep you posted.
What are you working on?

Block 6 LayerCake

Block 6
Here is my next block. I'm not thrilled with it. Maybe it will grow on me. The red shapes kind of jump out.  I think I should have done more variety. As we progress, there is less choice of the leftover layer cake squares. The borders of this were all from scraps as I am trying to have some left for the next 6 blocks!
On the bright side I used my 50% off coupon at JoAnn's today and got a bolt of muslin. I can always use muslin for backings, but this is for practicing some new designs on the long arm. I will post pics later. Sundays I try to do my own stuff or take a break from customer quilting. (Unless I'm on a deadline)
Tuesday I'm going to Road to California and taking a class. Whoo Hoo!! Maybe go again Saturday for another lecture and to see the show.

Layer Cake--Block 5

Here is the next in the series for the mystery Layer Cake Quilt a Long that I am doing.  The challenge was to get a mix of fabrics and not use stripes, as the designer said they wouldn't work too well. I have several stripe fabrics in my LC and I need to get using them or I will be left with a few blocks that are all stripes!! (That could be fun.) I did sneak a stripe in the center and it was a left over piece that was just the right size, yeah.
I am thinking that for the accent fabric I will use the green that is in some of the fabrics. Each block will have a small,1 inch or so, border and the green will go there. I will try it out and see if it is too,"in your face". There will also be at least 2-3 other borders to use the red /blue/khaki. When the final clues are given as to the setting etc, I may revise. After all, one must be flexible in quilting. How often I have an idea for quilting the final top and re think it as I am quilting away on it!

More pictures and updates from my longarm quilting coming. Right now my room has be taken over by my son and DIL who are visiting from Hong Kong. We are still having holiday fun!

Layer Cake Fun !

I've joined in the Layer Cake  Quilt a  Long over at http://moosequilts.blogspot.com/ (Moose on the Porch Quilts).  Every 2 weeks  there is a new block by a designer for us to do. This is the first one.
Fabric is Clermont Farms by  Minick & Simpson. It is a real stretch for me. I am usually  a purple, green, blue girl. This time I went out of the box. I really love all the fabrics in this selection.
I think I can have some fun with these. I do need one accent fabric that will be surrounding each block and then used as a border. What do you think?  red, dark tan, green (there is a bit in some of the prints)
No idea what  this will look like in the end, but should be fun getting there!
